On Saturday, February 24, 2024, Edward John Denes Jr, beloved father and grandfather, passed away, He was eighty years old. Born to Teresa and Edward Denes, Edward graduated from Notre Dame High School, earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Fairfield University, and a Masters from Fordham. He spent 43 years as a high school Math teacher, basketball coach, Dean of Students, and head of Registrar; Big D was the beating heart of GFA! He was known for having an open-door policy for any student looking for help—whether they were working on a college application, reviewing a paper, or seeking guidance in their lives.

Edward had a love of learning and was always working on some project from rebuilding radios, cars, plumbing, electrical, to a new roof. After attending a dance at St. Vincent's School of Nursing in February of 1963, he met the love of his life, Cathleen. "Nothing in life is perfect, but our almost 55 years of marriage was pretty darn close."

Ed was best known for his Catholic faith, generous spirit, and positive mindset, He had a love of baseball, basketball, music, games, and math. Survivors include: daughter, Michelle Molnar and her husband, Paul, daughter, Kristen Barrett and companion Joe Caselli; three grandchildren Cheyan Lavrado, Richard Lavrado, and Bailie Palaka; one great-grandchild Reya Canales; sister, Linda Betz, sister, Karen Dominik; several nieces and nephews; as well as many extended family and friends. His family takes great solace that he is now with God and pain-free!

Friends may greet the family on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 4-7pm at the Dennis & D'Arcy - Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St., Stratford, CT 06615. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 9:00am at St. James Church, Stratford. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Reya Canales Education Fund.
