Born in Stratford on June 20, 1928, he was a son of the late Anthony and Irene (Buda) Agvent. Ed was a graduate of Stratford High School and worked as a machinist , first for Bantham Machine and then for over 30 years for the Bodine Corp . Ed was an active duckpin bowler at Barnum Lanes until well into his 70's , most recently in the Sanford League where he held their single game record score of 214 in 1987. Ed was also active in the Stratford Original Little League, beginning in 1964 as a coach for Stony Brook and ending as League President in the mid 70's. He and Joan followed the Raybestos Brakette and Cardinal softball teams fr om the mid 60's and Ed attended games on a regular basis for roughly 50 years. With Joan , t he y traveled to regional and national tournaments across the country . Ed would watch any baseball or football game that was on TV , but was primarily a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and later the Boston Red So x .
Retiring shortly after his granddaughter Alison was born gave Ed and Joan the opportunity to enjoy life as grandparents. E d loved gardening (especially his tomatoes and green beans) and also loved to walk their dog Deanne down to the local park. Ed was simply one of those guys who would offer his help to anyone in need and say hello to anyone passing by when he frequently sat on his front porch steps .
Ed is survived by his son Ed Agvent Jr. and his wife Marilyn, his beloved granddaughter Alison Marcone and her husband Ryan, his brothers Charles Agvent and Anthony "Tony" Agvent Jr and his wife Sharon , his sister -in-law Pilar Agvent and numerous nieces and nephews in CT, SC, GA, and NM. Ed was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Joan French Agvent, his brothers Ray Agvent and Frank "Key" Agvent and sisters-in-law Del Agvent and Terry Agvent.
The family would like to extend their appreciate to the staff s of Embrace Hospice, Thrive at Prince Creek and Myrtle Beach Estates in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for the wonderful level of care and caring provided to Ed.
A Funeral Service will be held on T uesday October 9, 2018 at 10 am at Dennis & D'Arcy - Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home . Interment will follow at Kings Highway Cemetery in Milford. Friends may greet the family on Monday October 8th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Dennis & D'Arcy - Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street Stratford CT 06615.
