Dorothy Katherine Gasiz Simon, age 89 of Stratford, widow of Guy A. Simon, passed away on Thursday January 19, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport on January 16, 1928 she just celebrated her 89th birthday on Monday. She was a lunch lady at Stonybrook, Nichols and Second Hill Lane Schools. Dorothy was a 50 year member of the Women of the Moose Bridgeport Chapter 193 and a Golden Circle Member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 9460 in Stratford. She was a devoted bingo player and played every Thursday and Sunday with her many friends. She was a fantastic homemaker and enjoyed baking and cooking for her family during the holidays, birthdays and special family events. Dorothy loved relaxing times she spent with her husband Guy on vacations in Cape Cod as well as traveling to various L.S.T. conventions country wide. Survivors include her loving children; three sons, Allen Simon and his wife Pamela of Stratford, Edward Simon of Hamden, and Michael Simon and his wife Jennifer of Milford, a daughter, Michelle Horvath and her husband Frank of Harwinton, a sister, Ethel Waters, of CA, seven grandchildren, Amy, David, Kevin, Mandy, Tom, Tyler and Matthew, 5 great grandchildren, Emily, Nicholas, Christopher, Ava and Benjamin, several nieces and nephews and her faithful companion "Max". She was predeceased by three brothers. The family would like to thank the many friends and devoted caregivers who made Dorothy's passing at home peaceful.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday January 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dennis & D'Arcy - Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St. Stratford with Pastor Mar Jo Anderson, of the Salem Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday January 22, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00a.m. prior to services.
