Obituary

Adela Violet Cable, age 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21. She was a long-time resident of Shelton, most recently a resident of Orange Healthcare Center in Orange.
Violet was born in Bridgeport on September 5, 1923. She was the daughter of Cecilia and Manuel de la Pena. She is predeceased by her husband, Jesse, three brothers, Anthony, Henry, and Edward, and a sister, Mildred.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all.
She leaves behind her daughter, Christa and her wife, Michele, Michele's sons, Steven and Michael. Also, her son Mark and his wife Barbara, and her grandchildren Kailyn, Zachary, Jeffrey and Alexandra, two great-granddaughters, Brielle and Harper, and a great grandson, Cedric.
She also leaves behind two very special friends, Margo Wright and Judy Batisfalvi.
Violet broke ground and tradition in her career path with IBM first in Bridgeport and later commuting by train into Manhattan where she broke glass ceilings becoming the first female manager in IBM. She paused her career for fifteen years to raise a family. During that time she was active in local Shelton politics and community organizations such as the League of Women Voters, Voters Action Party, and the Valley United Way. Violet then continued her career, retiring from Bridgeport Metal Goods where she was a Human Resources Administrator.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Orange Healthcare Center for their outstanding care over the past two years.
Calling hours are Wednesday, May 23, from 4pm – 8pm, at the Dennis & D'Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, Stratford. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 24, 10:30, at St. Lawrence Church, Shelton. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Bridgeport.
