Betty Ann McCaslin, age 68, of Fairfield CT, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 4, 2012 at Greenwich Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She hailed from China, Maine, daughter of the late Donald and Arlene McCaslin. She received degrees from Boston University and Fairfield University. Betty was a dedicated teacher for 38 years, teaching at Staples High School in Westport, CT; Escola Americana de Campinas in Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Saxe Middle School in New Canaan, CT where she retired in 2004. In her youth, Betty was an ardent scholar, a skilled athlete and an insatiable adventurer which gave way to later years of being a devoted teacher, a skilled knitter, and a voracious reader. Though her hobbies evolved, her compassion and love for her fellow man never waivered which fostered her greatest roles of all: treasured mother, endeared nana, and exemplary friend. Betty encouraged and inspired all those who crossed her path and her very presence made one want to be a better person. Her surviving adorers include her beloved daughters, Tiffany Ayres and husband Thomas of Trumbull, CT; Davina Josko and fiancé Ryan Bango of Fairfield, CT; brother William McCaslin of China, ME; sister Jane Sherman and husband Ronnie of Palermo, ME; sister Terry Curtis and husband Edward of China, ME; four grandchildren: Timothy R. Bango-Josko, Lily G. Ayres, Isabella A. Ayres and Sarah R. Ayres of Trumbull and 78 nieces, nephews and greats. Betty's life will be celebrated on Tuesday Oct. 9, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Dennis & D’Arcy - Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main St., Stratford CT. Friends are also invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday Oct. 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 4670 Congress St., Fairfield, CT with The Rev. Dr. Matthew H. Calkins, officiating. Burial services will take place on Thursday Oct. 11, 2012 at 2 p.m. in Village Cemetery, Vassalboro, ME with the blessing of The Rev. Joseph Palmer.
